December 9, 2010 Last Day!!!

Yesterday was fantastic but i have to admit it could've been better. The first thing that bites was a the fact we had to rush through everything, they had a benchmark that day. Another thing was I didn't have string, or popsicle sticks prepared... I felt extremely unprepared, but as I was told don't show your messing up just act like its part of the lesson. But other than that it was an enjoyable experience and I wish I could've gone seen their finished products. I had started missing them before I even left the campus.I now cant wait til I participate in a highschool class!!

I also was able to participate in Gym, we did a bunch of exceriszes and those jumoing jacks were killer! My ribs are now sore!

Junior Achievement! AWESOME EXPERIENCE!!

I was absoultly terrified in the beginning of the day I felt I was super unprepared, that all that I read would fly out the door. But when I got there everything just hit me, I knew exactly what to do. Me and my partner started by introducing ourselves and starting the session of working together. She read them the story that went with the lesson and afterwords we gave them the activity which consisted of drawing their favorite animal and sharing it with the class. We talked to them about how they work together and how helping each other can make them feel good and give them rewards. They then went to lunch and we went with them and I noticed how they were helping each other open chips and cookies for each other and share it. When we finally got back to class --

to be finished later

Website for the little ones and teachers!!!!! :)

One of the websites, http://classtools.net/, I found to be very interesting. It contained many different applications that could be used to help students learn and memorize different information using "Hands on" activities. For example the Memory Game helps students memorize the information. But there are also applications for the teachers like one called the Random Name Picker which can be used when a student does not want to volunteer and can be used in fairness.

Another cool thing about the website is that all the applications are listed and you do not have to search everywhere for the dang thing. There are also video tutorials for those who are more non computer savy.

Conflicts...grrr

When I was in class, two boys where shooting the infamous Silly Bands at each other disrupting the class multiple times. Finally i went over and stood inbetween them to block theyre shooting path. When I thought theyre rubber band show was done with I moved, yet loe and behold when I turned around and they were at it again. So I went to each of them and without saying a word I put my hands out and they gave their bands to me and I told them ill give them back before I leave.

It felt pretty good to have that kind of power. :)

Conferance questions!

The teacher I am shadowing had conferences during this week that this is posted in. So I took the advantage and asked questions about methods or tactics used during the Teacher Parent meetings. If the parent(s) were to get upset during the conference or if she knew the parent(s) would get upset she would ask someone else to come and sit in as a witness in case something is said that is out of place by her or the parent(s) so if any controversy comes up she has someone else to vouch for it. If the parent(s)are not very confident with their child’s abilities she'll show the parent(s) their child’s work and show them how well they're doing, because if the child’s doing good and then the parent becomes involved the child’s success rate will shoot up. If two parents started to argue in the conference she'll attempt to make them focus on their child’s work or try to end it as quickly as possible and attempt to reschedule the meeting separately.

So cutee!

Yesterday...was...amazing!!! I went to class and some of the kids actually jumped up to give me a hug. They were all so happy to see me! Ms Doan and I started talking about somethings and kids were coming to me to ask questions about the work. And for a little while Ms Doan left me to be in charge of the kids and making sure they were doin their workk was difficult ^-^ but fun. And when we went to the labs a child made me a braclet, it was so, je ne sais quoi, cool? And then we went back to the class room, specials were about to start so most of the kids came over and started giving me hugs and asking me if I were coming back next week. I never felt so happy to be wanted to come back.

Unfortunatly, I can't go back next week, silly PSATs

Amazing!!-- Septemeber 30, 2010

Yesterday was AMAZING!!! When I arrived they were doing A Moon Phases lab, they were sooooo adorable!! I continued memorizing their names, which was of some difficulty  for they were not sitting in their previous assigned seats. But they were following me every where and constnatly asking for help when they really didnt need it.When we finally went to specials(music, PE, art, etc.) I played my Viola (same as violin but deeper in sound) and they were enthralled! I was a little ashamed, for I couldve played better, but none the less they enjoyed it, which made me leave with a smile stuck to my face! :D

September 23, 2010 -- Awsomeness!!

That trip was so far the best, I've learned all their names! They are so cuute! they were all jumping up to help me and they kept asking questions. And one boy who never talked in class would not stop talking to me all because I said I read a book he was reading. And beacuse of mix ups we didnt do the labs, instead we went back to class and just waited til Specials(fitness, music, Art etc.)

When specials came around I went with a group of kids to music and met one of my old teachers and we sang a song that is still stuck in my head. And next week I'm bringing my instrument for that class to show them what I play for music.

"Speed bon-nie boat like a bird in the wind! 'Onward!' the sailors cry! Speed bon-nie boat boat like a bird in the wind! over the seas and skye!!" (lyric to song we were singing)

Cant wait til next week!!!

September 16- with the 4th graders!!

We still got there a little late, unfortunately but it was fun none the less. We sang the national anthem then talked about the Constitution(which i find amazing because I don't remember learning that way back when) And since they have specials on Thursdays, we went to the lab again and they were doing a light experiment. I'm still trying to learn names of students and somewhat succeeding.

Can't wait til next week!!

1st day with 4th grade munchkins!

They were doing elections for student council, it was so adorable! But this little girl started crying because she didnt make it to the finals, I told her that its ok because theres always another one and i made a joke and she started laughing and that made me feel better. I help do the tallying for the elections then we went to a science lab to do some type experiment they were awsome!!!
